Help    Browsing

The IITE Web site has been designed to be accessible by all major browsers, such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. The site is optimised for those using version 4 browsers and above, but those using earlier browser versions from IE 3.02 and Netscape 3.03 upwards can access it successfully and without problems.

The IITE Web site has been designed to use the latest Web technologies: JavaScript 1.2 and Shockwave Flash 4.

For those using older browser versions which might not support these technologies, the site has been designed to "degrade gracefully". This means that we can detect what level of browser you are using and present the same information in a way that your browser will support.

The minimum screen resolution for the Web site is the standard 640 x 480 pixels.

An in-built auto-detect system within the IITE Web site ensures that, if you visit areas of the site which have audio or visual elements for which you do not have supporting software, it will initially try to install it. Otherwise, you will be directed to an html version of the page.

If you encounter any problems viewing the site, select the Best Accessibility version where it is available. For further information on best accessibility, see the details on Accessibility.

We do not endorse or provide support for any software application, but if you need further technical help about the site see our Frequently Asked Questions or mail the IITE Web site Developing Team.

Advice on how to use the site if you experience sight problems

If you are using 'access technology' (such as synthesized speech software, Braille output software or large print software, WAP or PDPA hardware technologies) or have problems viewing the site, please follow the tips below, which are recommended by the RNIB.

  • Explore the options in your browser (at the top of this window). Using the latest versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer you will find you are able to:
    • alter the text size
    • alter the text color
    • alter the background color
    • alter the line length, by changing the size and shape of your browser window

override the color scheme of this and other Web sites with your preferred settings.
